Background Story of Our Buddhist Craft Initiative

In my journey of lifelong Dharma practice, I often found myself seeking deeper meaning and practices. One day, after a quiet moment of reflection, I approached my Buddhist teacher Gen Namgyel-la with a heartfelt request: "What can I do to embody the teachings of the Buddha in my life?"

Teacher Gen Namgyel-la listened intently and offered a simple yet profound piece of advice: "Create Medicine Buddha statues and share them with those who are interested." This guidance resonated deeply within me, igniting a passion to connect with others through the art of creation and the teachings of Buddhism.

Inspired, I enlisted the help of two dedicated volunteers who shared my vision. Together, we set out to gather the necessary materials, including molds and ingredients suitable for crafting our statues. After trials and experimentation, we finally perfected a blend that would allow us to create beautiful plaster statues that truly embodied the spirit of the Medicine Buddha.

To share this practice and foster community, we initiated workshops on Wednesday nights and occasionally on Saturday nights. Our doors are open to all who wish to join, free of charge. Participants not only learn the craft of statue making but also engage in meaningful conversations about Buddhism, mindfulness, and connection.

The statues we create are offered freely to the public, embodying our goal to spread the teachings of the Buddha and foster a sense of community. Through these workshops, we hope to build bridges, inspire curiosity, and invite others to explore the profound wisdom of Buddhism.

Our journey is not just about creating art; it’s about nurturing connections, sharing compassion, and making the teachings of the Buddha accessible to all. Join us in this beautiful endeavor as we craft, connect, and cultivate a more mindful world together.
